I have been teaching Gospel Doctrine on and off for a total of twelve years. My hope is that you can use some of the information I have gathered for my lessons to augment your own as you work from the Church-provided materials and follow the Spirit in your preparation.
There are three things I have found helpful when conducting class discussions:
-
Let the class know the discussion point(s) before they read the scripture passage.
-
Be prepared to provide a clear, definitive answer and conclude the discussion by quoting a Church authorityor other reliable resource.
-
Display the quote so the entire class can follow along as it is being read.
I have found that using a presentation is the most effective way to accomplish these discussion objectives.
